Evaluation and analysis of coupling coordination degree of water resources-social economy-ecological environment in Tuojiang River Basin

Abstract: The coordinated development of regional water resources, social economy and ecological environment systems is an important foundation for sustainable development, this paper used the models of coupled coordinated development and grey relational degree to analyze the characteristics and driving factors of the coupled coordinated development of the water resources, social economy, and ecological environment system in the Tuojiang River Basin. The results showed that the coupling degree of the water resources, social economy, and ecological environment system in the Tuojiang River Basin rose from 0.450 in 2009 to 0.843 in 2023.Specifically, it was in a transitional stage from 2009 to 2013, in a low-level coupling coordination stage of primary or intermediate level from 2014 to 2019, and in a good high-level coupling coordination stage from 2020 to 2023.The driving factors influencing the coordinated development of the composite system in the Tuojiang River Basin, ranked from strongest to weakest were the social and economic system, water resources system, and ecological environment system. However, the dominant factors affecting the coordinated development of the six cities in the Tuojiang River Basin vary.Important measures to enhance the coupling coordination level of water resources, socio-economics, and the ecological environment in the Tuojiang River Basin include regulating and curbing behaviors that damage the ecosystem, promoting social development and industrial transformation, and comprehensively strengthening water supply and water usage management.
