Abstract: In recent years, various projects aimed at improving the water ecological environment of Dongting Lake have already achieved initial results, and it is developing steadily and well. However, there are still some problems in Dongting lake, which limit the further improvement of the water ecological environment. In order to "protect the clear water of the Yangtze River" and support the green and sustainable development of the regional social economy, based on literature research, statistical analysis and water environment evaluation methods, we analyzed the main problems of the water ecological environment security of Dongting Lake, and put forward a clear water path to strengthen the water ecological environment security in Dongting Lake, taking into account both internal and external factors and multi-scale governance. The main measures were as follows: establishing a unified trans-administrative basin management mechanism, setting up a water resources management system with coordinated human and water, implementing sewage interception, source control, and treatment restoration simultaneously, optimizing the lake area s industrial structure, building a digital twin monitor and forewarning platform, strengthening green technology innovation and so on, and a demonstration area for clear water in the basin would be established. The research results can provide a reference for ecological restoration of Dongting Lake.
